- Do not assume all XFA PDFs can be flattened
- Do not upload private tax documents to unknown converters

Why does my SARS PDF say “Please wait” instead of opening?
Some downloadable SARS documents are interactive XFA forms created with Adobe technology. A browser PDF preview may display only a “Please wait” screen because it cannot interpret the form, even though the file is intact. Other SARS statement PDFs are protected by a password. This privacy-first checker examines the selected local file for signs of an interactive form or encryption, offers a normal browser preview when appropriate, and tells you which supported route to try next. It does not upload the document, remove passwords, or promise to convert every XFA form.
Before you start
The common “Please wait” document is often an interactive XFA form created for Adobe-compatible software. A password-protected statement is an entirely different case. First identify the kind of PDF before deciding whether to try a compatible reader, convert a supported static document or request another format from SARS.

How to use this tool
- Download the original attachment from a source you trust, then choose the PDF on this page. No copy is sent to Silver Ivy.
- Review the format indicators. XFA, password-protected, invalid and standard PDFs need different fixes.
- For an XFA form, save it and use the desktop Adobe Acrobat Reader as SARS recommends. If it opens correctly there, print a static copy only if you no longer need editable fields or digital signatures.
A real-world example
A Chrome tab may display “Please wait” for a SARS form. Download the PDF instead, open it in a compatible desktop PDF application, then complete the interactive fields there. A password-protected SARS statement needs the legitimate password supplied through official instructions.
Never type a tax reference number, password or banking information into an unfamiliar online converter. This tool never requests those details.
Check this before you finish
- Check that the document originated from a trusted SARS channel.
- Identify XFA, encryption and structural errors separately.
- Retain the original file if conversion changes interactive fields.
What to avoid
No browser tool can promise to repair every XFA file, remove passwords or produce a legally accepted SARS filing. This utility is a local diagnostic helper.

Frequently asked questions
Will this repair every XFA PDF?
No. Some dynamic XFA forms require a compatible Adobe reader. The checker helps identify the likely problem and offers local preview for files your browser supports.
Can I bypass a SARS PDF password?
No. Password protection is different from XFA incompatibility. Use the legitimate password instructions from SARS.
Does Silver Ivy see my tax document?
No. The file selection and inspection run locally in your browser. Do not email the document to support.
