Quality checkpoint
- Confirm statutory rates against current official sources
- Do not treat this as a payroll or PAYE filing system
The calculator, builder or download above works independently. AI Assist is an optional explanation and writing helper, never required to complete the core task.
Prepare a payslip estimate and understand employer costs
A South African payslip may show gross earnings, PAYE withholding, employee UIF and other authorised deductions. Employers can also pay UIF and, when applicable, Skills Development Levy (SDL). This planner estimates basic monthly UIF using the published monthly ceiling, accepts PAYE as a manual entry and produces a readable draft payslip PDF. It is not payroll tax software: PAYE depends on the correct tax tables, period, employee details, rebates, taxable benefits and directives.
Before you start
A draft payslip is useful for understanding gross-to-net pay, but statutory deductions depend on current tables, eligibility and employee circumstances. Keep payroll approvals and records separate from a simple calculator.

How to use this tool
- Enter the employee name, employer, pay period and gross monthly remuneration.
- Add a PAYE amount calculated through proper payroll records or a tax practitioner and any other documented deductions.
- Review employee net pay alongside employer UIF and optional SDL, then download the draft for review.
A real-world example
At R10,000 UIF-eligible monthly remuneration, an ordinary employee UIF deduction is R100 and the employer UIF contribution is another R100. PAYE and other deductions depend on the actual employment record.
Do not treat this PDF as a verified statutory payslip until an authorised payroll person checks it against current SARS and employment rules.
Check this before you finish
- Confirm the applicable tax year and statutory rates.
- Record gross pay, contributions and deductions accurately.
- Have payroll reviewed before issuing official payslips.
What to avoid
Never describe estimates as SARS-approved payroll calculations.
WHAT THIS TOOL ACTUALLY DOESExport a draft employee payment summary, not a certified payroll filing.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool calculate PAYE automatically?
No. Enter PAYE from a verified source. A generic monthly salary alone is not enough for every payroll case.
Why is UIF capped?
SARS specifies a monthly remuneration ceiling for calculating ordinary UIF contributions. Rates and thresholds can change, so verify the published figures.
